Inserting Qoutes into our Papers

Original

  • Signal Phrasing without Author in Signal-  Cuddy is much more flexible when it comes to entering a Discourse.
  • Embedded Quotation- “‘Language ‘ is a misleading term; it too often suggests ‘grammar’. It is a truism that a person can know perfectly the grammar of a language and not know how to use that language. It is not just what we say, but how we say it.” ( Gee 5).
  • Block Quotation-N/A
  • Paraphrase-  Cuddy an American psychologist, author, and lecturer gave a presentation recently on TEDTalk about the power of body language and how it shapes us as the humans we are today in society. She talks about handshakes and other things, but her main point is all about the capability and effects of power posing for two minutes a day.
  • Summary- Gee believes in Primary and Secondary Discourses along as “Mushfaking” into a Discourse. Cuddy is much more flexible when it comes into entering a Discourse. She has two methods that she goes by. These two methods include, “Fake it till you make it” and “fake it till you become it”. After reading, comprehending, and understanding these two texts they are both trying to pull us into their own direction on how us humans in a society can enter a discourse if that’s even possible for some people, because according to Gee if you are not in that “Discourse” now, you will not be able to get into it ever.

Signal Phrasing with Author in Signal

  • Signal Phrasing without Author in Signal- Cuddy is much more flexible when it comes to entering a Discourse, unlike Gee who will say even you are capable of entering a Discourse
  • Embedded Quotation- “‘Language ‘ is a misleading term; it too often suggests ‘grammar’. It is a truism that a person can know perfectly the grammar of a language and not know how to use that language. It is not just what we say, but how we say it.” ( Gee 5).  Jack was saying I should get rid this quote. starting off my essay with a quote may not have been the strongest thing. He says I should be able to start off the essay in a more abstract view by discussing the abstract view of linguistics and Discourses
  • Block Quotation- N/A
  • Paraphrase- Cuddy an American psychologist, author, and lecturer gave a presentation  on TEDTalk about the effects of body language and how it changes us as the humans we are today in society and how we are viewed by our peers everyday. A simple Handshake can be in the news for weeks because it can tell us so much how they are as a person , but her main point is all about the capability and effects of power posing for two minutes a day.
  • Ellipses- N/A Jack said I should keep this one because it provides a good overall summary of the two pieces and their basics.
  • Brackets-N/A

After having two meetings with Jack and going over my essay and reviewing Cripps comments as well, I took the advice of jack when revising this paper. Overall the essay is good. Jack made two main points on my paper and that is a main idea and evidence.  I lack a main idea that should be running throughout the entire essay. Along with that main idea I need to add more of a view that represents my ideas as well but make them stronger instead of just claiming something. I need to provide more in text citation to provide some support for my claims. Because claims without support will not  convince your reader. I should provide examples not only from the text but also form my experience.
